Nails

Nails can pull any look together, dramatic, sophisticated, or somewhere in between, depending on personal style. Learning the different nail techniques and application methods benefits beginners and seasoned professionals alike.

HICI Go's nail tech courses are available through webinars and on-demand video for students across the U.S., along with select live, in-person courses. Here's a closer look at the nail techniques covered through HICI Go.

Nail Techniques

Students can explore a range of manicure styles and techniques through HICI Go, including:

Regular Manicure

A regular manicure is the most basic style, covering prep work and polish application on natural nails. This starts with clean hands, trimmed and filed nails, and tidy cuticles, followed by polish applied in layers: base coat, color, and top coat. Nails need to fully dry before clients head out.

Soft Gel Nails

Soft gel manicures use gel polish applied directly to natural nails, similar to traditional polish, but with a UV light used between coats to cure each layer. This creates a harder, more durable shell that typically lasts two to three weeks, longer than a standard manicure.

Hard Gel Nails

Hard gel manicures use a thicker gel to build a durable shell over natural nails. The gel is brushed on and sculpted smooth, offering more flexibility for customized shapes and even gel extensions, making it a solid alternative to acrylics.

Acrylic Manicure

Acrylic nails involve more steps and real precision. After standard nail prep, technicians apply a plastic tip or extension, then brush on a liquid-and-powder acrylic mixture over both the natural nail and extension. Once it hardens, nails are shaped and filed down for a natural look, then finished with regular polish, gel polish, or dip powder.

Dip Powder Manicure

Dip powder manicures build color through repeated dips into colored powder rather than brushed-on polish. After a base coat, the nail is dipped several times to build even, vibrant color, then finished with a top coat. Dip powder tends to be more durable than soft gel and doesn’t require UV light to set.
